This 10 day residency will see participants delving into the medium of b/w 16mm film hands-on, with the outcome of making their own analog black and white motion-picture experimental short films.
The residency will cover everything from the workings of 16mm cameras, film stock, different kinds of processing and DIY contact printing, to exploring camera-less image-making on film. Residents are encouraged to experiment with the medium and explore various manipulations in image-making techniques. You will have the remainder of studio time to work independently on your filmic explorations, with guidance from facilitators, and the spirit of making in a creative community, amidst nature. The location is an erstwhile mine converted into a forest with love. It has mud houses and is nestled within nature and a larger town which is seeped in history and culture.
Prior knowledge or experience with film is not required to participate in this residency.
The residency will be facilitated by makers from Harkat Studios, Mumbai. Hosted at Greenara, Kozhikode, Kerala (https://greenara.in/)
Registration fee: INR 65,000/-
The fee covers your accommodation, daily meals, facilitation, film stock and other studio materials. Each resident will be allocated 200ft of black and white film as part of the fee. It does not include your travel to the residency space in Greenara.
