so what is straight 8:

founded in london, in 1999, straight 8 is a short film competition shot on one cartridge of super 8mm film; with no editing, no re-takes, no grade, no post-production. the visuals for your film are completed in-camera, shooting in story order, editing only with each pull of the camera’s trigger. every shot you take becomes your film. the film cartridge does not record sound so you then submit a separate, original soundtrack, still without having seen your film. straight 8 then gets your film processed, at world class cinelab film and digital, and then lines up your soundtrack to the first frame of picture. the first time you see your own film will be with the audience at one of straight 8’s premieres – the top 8 make it to a prestigious screening at cannes, and the top 25 premiere at BFI Imax in London!! and regardless of your selection in the top 8 or 25, all india entries will be screened at Harkat’s 16mm Film Festival 2025, in Mumbai!
