Harkat 16mm Film Festival Harkat 16mm Film Festival

It has been a long cherished dream to take our lab to the mountains, to create a breathing space, a pause; where we can immerse ourselves in some quiet contemplation and spend our days making, wholly.

Spread over the course of 10-days, this unique residency will start off with an overview of the celluloid medium, covering everything from the workings of 16mm cameras, film stock, different kinds of processing and diy contact printing, to exploring camera-less image-making on film. Residents are encouraged to experiment with the medium, and explore various manipulations in image-making techniques. You will have the remainder of studio time to work independently on your filmic explorations, with guidance from facilitators, and the spirit of making in a creative community, amidst nature.

Prior knowledge or experience with film is not required to participate in this residency. We are looking for people who want to question the nature of the moving image, distort it, and create new ways of seeing and making. The ideal participant is an artist, filmmaker, writer, or someone who has an existing practice of some sort in any creative medium.

The residency will be facilitated by Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie of nanolab, Australia, with Harkat, and hosted at Buddha Pāda, Kalimpong.
